Automation Engineer

What you do

The Automation Engineer focuses on Sioen’s strategic move toward the digitalization of industrial processes using the following technologies, software, and tools: AVEVA (formerly Wonderware) System Platform, AVEVA Historian & AVEVA OMI, Kepware’s KepserverEX, and Siemens Step7/TIA Portal.

As part of the central OT team, you develop and maintain the digital model and modular solutions to address a wide range of requests from production sites worldwide, with a focus on nearby sites.

You work primarily with the technologies mentioned above, while also taking a broader approach—ranging from data collection through datalogging and integration projects to assisting with interfacing other systems such as MES, and helping provide insights and reporting to users.

You are responsible for executing and following up on datalogging / Historian / SCADA projects for both local and remote plants using AVEVA and related applications:

• Conceptualizing new installations in line with group standards
• Setting up and improving solutions and group standards
• Estimating costs and efforts to inform the business
• Installing and configuring systems
• Supporting daily operations
• Maintaining contacts with integrators
• Managing and performing updates
• Monitoring performance
• Striving for overall standardization and the use of industry-standard solutions
• Advising and assisting in interfacing projects with other business applications

Who you are

• You hold a higher education degree (preferably Industrial Engineering) or have an equivalent qualification through AVEVA certification and project experience.
• You have extensive knowledge of AVEVA System Platform, Historian, and OMI.
• You have a basic knowledge of Kepware’s KEPServerEX and Microsoft SQL.
• You are familiar with Siemens PLCs (Step 7, TIA Portal, industrial networks).
• You have a basic understanding of Eplan and LAN networks; knowledge of industrial cybersecurity is a plus.
• You have a good command of Dutch, English, and French (knowledge of German or Italian is a plus).
• You are a problem solver, analytical, pragmatic, and have a hands-on approach.
